Grant is a vital step in effort to convert COTA buses to natural gas

 

A $1 million award nabbed by COTA is promising news: It’s a key part of a revolution that will provide the region with cleaner air, reduce the need to import oil and save millions in fuel costs that can be rerouted to improve bus service.

This is the prospect as the Central Ohio Transit Authority converts its fleet to run on compressed natural gas, or CNG, a cleaner fuel whose primary component is methane. Since CNG is a gas, not a liquid that can be easily spotted, the agency needed the monitoring system to warn of a leak at the McKinley Avenue fueling station.
